InterVarsity at Texas Southern University ("TSU IV") was birthed out of a decision made at Urbana 2012, and seven years later the ministry has flourished. With its affiliation Texas Southern makes history as the first historically black college and university (HBCU) with an InterVarsity chapter in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. With many students connected to our community and a growing reach of the campus, God is truly at work on this campus.
Fall 2013 the seed to start a ministry on campus was planted into the hearts of FIVE Texas Southern students. In February 2014, the seed broke open and InterVarsity at Texas Southern started to grow. Since inception the ministry has experience great joy and great loss, but even so God continues to bless. This fall the students of TSU IV have reached almost 900 students. They also had the second largest number of chapter attendees at the Red River Fall Regional Conference South Site, held the first Christian Hump Day (mid-week party) on campus, joined students from around the world on World Student Day with TWO prayer meetings, connected forces with other Campus Christian Groups for a Prayer Vigil, and held the first campus praise and worship night.
The mission of TSU IV is to see transformation in the lives of students and faculty allowing them to serve the campus and live in such a way that they change the world. From ZERO student-led small groups to SEVEN. FIVE open students to THIRTY core members. SIX attending fall regional conferences to TWENTY-TWO. THIRTY reached on campus to almost NINE HUNDRED. Staff-led to Student-led. Students saying "Yes Staff" to Students saying "YES God!" In just two years TSU IV is being used by God to transform students live, serve the campus, and change the world! Won't you partner with us on this mission?!
